construction everywhere!
Winthrop's campus is a very beautiful place. And, I do mean beautiful.
I use to go sit out outside for hours on a nice day, and just watch people walk by or work on school work. But, now when I go outside all I seem to be doing is watching the workers work on Tillman, Carol Hall, or the new student center. I mean, I love that we are getting all this new stuff, but I feel they do it at very random times.
Work started being done on Tillman over the summer, and I thought it was going to be done before the school year started, so we didn't look tacky. But, no. Hate to say it, but Tillman looks like it has braces. I mean, what the heck are they doing to it anyway?
Carol Hall is coming together nicely, too bad those of us who have watched it being built won't be able to use it. Just like the new student center, or scholar's walk. Unless you are a freshman right now, possibly a sophomore, or a 6 year senior, you won't even step foot on scholar's walk or in the student center.
Soon they are going to start working on the new library in the gravel lot.
Can't wait to drive by one day and Winthrop just be one big construction site.
I mean, I am sure that students will love these new buildings once they are able to be in use. But until that time it just gets kind of annoying. I mean you walk around campus and instead of looking at the trees or the nice day, you have to watch sweaty workers with their shirts off.
That sure is my idea of a nice day.
Winthrop, what's the deal?

work OVERLOAD!
There are a few things I have learned over the course of almost 3 years in college now, and just to list a few:
1. Professors do not care how much you cry in their office, if you earned a C, that's what you're getting
2. Professors don't really care if you are deathly ill, no note, no excused absence (most teachers)
3. Professors do not really care if exams are in a week, you WILL do your 4 projects and 3 papers, and then take your exam
And, this is just to list the top 3.
It is the week before exams, and almost every student is in the final stretch of finishing whatever projects or papers they have due.
Now, this only goes out to some if not most professors, who just don't seem to give a crap with how stressed you are.
I really feel like some professors think you are only taking their class that semester.
I mean, HELLO!
Some of us do need to graduate. Therefore, we take about 15 to 18, if not more, hours in a semester. Now, there are those occasional amazing professors, who just are laid back and are willing to work with their students (Yes Timbs, you are included in this). And, I don't think those professors really understand how much students appreciate them.
It's not that they are not strict on their students or slack, it's just they understand life is full of obstacles. You never know when you catch the flu, for an entire month (yes, this happened to me last year). I was out of class for almost three weeks. And, most teachers understood and let me work on stuff outside the classroom, but then there were those who made me come to their office, sick as horse, and bring my note to be excused.
I guess this blog might be mainly some venting, but I feel I am certainly not the only one who feels this way. So, let me get back to my 5 projects and 2 papers I have due today (ha).
And, I'm still smiling.
Professors, what's the deal?

elections...
So, here we have it. Obama has been elected president. Some people are extremely joyous, and some well, not so much.
I will willingly admit I did not want Obama as our next elected president, but I keep my opinion to myself to avoid arguments.
My question is, why can't everyone do the same? Didn't your mom every tell you if you don't have anything nice to say, then don't say anything at all.
Why don't we all practice this, please.
A friend of mine posted on an away message this morning her opinion about the new president, and some people took it way personal. Therefore, causing way more drama than needed. Why do people feel like they have to bash anyone who does not feel the same as they do?
The last time I checked we lived in a free country, and are entitled to our own opinion. We tend to forget that sometimes when people refuse to conform to our beliefs.
It's stupid. And, QUITE unnecessary.
No, McCain didn't win, and no, he will not be our president for the next four years.
But, it's okay.
When everything is all said and done Obama will be president, and there is nothing anyone can do about it, so why are we still bashing it and each other?
I'm sure Obama and McCain would just like us to move forward from here.
So, chill Winthrop. Let's move forward.

campus police.. ha
The question has been raised many times.
Are campus police even real police? And, what's their deal?
I mean I get that they say they are just looking out for students, but come on.
Chill a little.
I parked in a visitor parking spot the other week to walk into the West Center for not even two minutes. I walk back to my car, and there he is, the dreaded parking ticket man (I mean I don't actually think people even know their names).
So, of course, he gave me a ticket, and told me I was not a "visitor".
I wanted to tell him a few things myself.
I mean do they just think they are big and bad because of the uniform, or is it because they get to ride around in those "cool" golf carts?
Last time I checked, nobody likes you.
I know a girl who was attacked around 2 A.M. last week on campus, and reported to campus police.
They didn't believe her.
I mean what's a girl got to do to prove that she didn't make a story up? The girl had bruises on her face and scratches everywhere.
Yeah, I'm sure she asked her roommate to dig her finger nails into her face and punch her in the eye so it would look legit.
Campus police have no problem meeting their "quota" with the insane amount of tickets they give out a day, but they can't help a student who is obviously hurt.
Great. I feel safe.
So, campus police.. what's the deal?

This isn't a church people.
College is a place where yes, students can get away from their homes and achieve a higher education to prepare themselves for the work force. And yes, college is a place where students can have their own rooms and own private space with of course, one other person.
So, why are there still those people who congregate in the Wofford and Thomson lobbies? And, not only do they just stand around in massive groups, but they are extremely loud.
Why is it that Winthrop provides every student with their own space, but people never seem to use them?
I know it might be hard to cram everyone into one tiny room, and yes I do mean tiny. But, try it. At least you are only getting on the nerves of the people on your hall and not everyone on campus.
I just do not understand why families pay such good money, especially with tuition increasing every year, to come to a school and for people to not put their rooms to good use.
THAT'S WHAT THEY ARE THERE FOR.
It's hard enough trying to get around campus sometimes without having large groups of people crowding the area. I think some people just don't have any respect.
And for those who also make a lot of noise while standing around, last time I checked not everyone needed to hear your conversations.
So scatter. Congregate in your rooms. Make noise there.
Last time I check the lobbies were not churches.
So, what's the deal?

take your precious time. please.
Anyone ever been in that situation where you have about two minutes until class time and you just happen to get behind the slowest walker possible?
Not just the people who walk at a slow pace. I am talking about those who are almost at a stand still they are walking so slow.
Happens to me all the time.
In fact, I feel like it only happens to me when I have somewhere to be. It's like that slow person knows that the person behind them has somewhere to be, but I am going to take my time anyway.
Sometimes you even try to get by them in that fast pace by dodging to the right or left of them, but no, something always seems to get in the way.
The other day I was actually running really late for one of my classes, and this just happened to be the class where the teacher is a stickler for punctuality. And, of course, I get behind the girl who just wants to walk a slow as she can so she can basque in the sun and notice all the pretty leaves falling from the trees.
MOVE IT SISTER!
Sometimes I don't think people realize some of us have lives, and do not have the time to take in the beauty of nature.
I try to be as patient as I possibly can, but I'm only human, right?
It just so happens I was three minutes late to my class. And, of course, I get that eat poop and die look from my teacher as I hurry to get to my seat.
What I really wanted to do was explain to her that I blame those who take their precious time to stroll around campus.
So I ask you, what's the deal?

No need to look both ways?
Students scurry to get to class on time walking from their dorms or other classes to Owens building.
But, there seems to be just one obstacle standing in their way.
As a little kid we were always taught by our loving parents "look both ways before crossing the street". But, is that always necessary?
Ever since last year, at least I can remember, there have been black barriers placed on the road leading directly to Owens, blocking anyone from entering. And, ever since I can remember, there are still those students who will look both ways before crossing the street.
Last time I checked, no one is coming.
Then there are always those students who are aware and know NO ONE is coming and proceed to walk, without the look left, look right, ok go.
Daring, I know.
These are the students that always get those looks from other people like "oh my gosh, they are going to get hit".
Well guess what? No one is coming.
So, I ask you students again, what's the deal?
