smoking benches... purpose?

It has been brought to my attention that smoking benches no longer exist for an actual purpose.

Benches are placed conveniently and randomly all around campus on every corner for the specific purpose for those who smoke.

The only problem with these "smoking benches" is the fact that no one uses them. Students are saying that no one has the time on their 15 minute break between classes to walk outside and walk to a smoking bench, sit down and then be on their way to their next class.

There are those, like myself, who absolutely gag at the smell of smoke. And, I know I am not alone when I say it absolutely drives me crazy when a person is walking in front of me with their cigarette in hand and their smoke makes its way back to me.

Maybe, it is just the fact that Winthrop policy tells us we must use these benches, so students automatically rebel and say, "no thank you."

If I wanted to smell like an astray I would dump one on me. But no, it seems all I have to do is walk around campus.

So, I say this.
Winthrop, what's the deal?
